Very well done! You have captured the essence of the ultimate (to date) example of the worst return on investment made by mankind. Aside from war, this dreaming of utopian energy production is the largest waste of natural resources, economic resources, and intellectual capital.

President Dwight Eisenhower was prescient in his warnings about the unholy alliances between big government and big industry and big education in ALL aspects, not just military matters. Unfortunately, we did not heed his warning, and are paying the price now.
Don't be disappointed, you can refer to some of his other pearls in future posts! People need to become more familiar with this very concise warning of what we are now experiencing.
We have lost all concept of monetary value. I often explain the difference between 1million seconds (c11days) and 1Bn (c33yrs) in an attempt to help people understand scale. Most are astonished but are then quite happy to say hosing down mountains of cash on AGW modelled threats for some 100yrs from now is a good use. I love your explanation of the Apollo programme and how it fairs against the bullshit we waste money on today. Give me 10 more Apollo's everyday of the week. At least we can then feel pride about man's achievements.
